Someone once told us that anything the Venezuelan born, Berlin based DJ @hyperaktivist touches turns to gold. We didn’t know what that meant until hearing her play in NYC early last year, and then attending her brilliant party Mala Junta in Berlin months later. Exceptional taste in music courses through her veins and she knows how to harness that into something valuable; a space, a sound, an energy. After co-founding SOLO, the first club dedicated solely to electronic music in her Venezuluen hometown, @hyperaktivist relocated to Berlin where she continued dedicatng herself to the development of nightlife in the queer community. She did this as the architect of several forward-thinking club nights including Mess, Mindful Electronic Sonic Selections and of course the notorious Mala Junta. By carving her own space through these events - and space for likeminded queer people - @hyperaktivist unleashed a new wave of faster, psychedelic-tinged trance and tribal techno, (often with a cheeky nod to the 90s rave era) onto the Berlin scene.

And in its wake - with much credit also to her partners, the incredible @dj-tool and resident @ddan-tek also - it would be fair to say, she’s changed the fabric of Berlin’s club scene for the better. Shifting the landscape, not only through introducing these relentless yet europic new sounds but also by making sure that the political values of equality, ring loud and clear in everything she touches. It may be @hyperaktivist vision but thanks to the team she’s assembled (including the fiercest door person Nayme), Mala Junta remains the most inclusive and freeing, yet exclusive and underground party to get into.

That’s a very difficult balance to make successful. Yet she’s able to do it many times over. Whether it’s through her genre-blurring DJ sets, her fab club nights or most importantly the community she’s brought together, one thing is certain and that is that everything @hyperaktivist touches really does become golden.
