The essential :
1 year after the very promising "Back to Reality", Comett returns with a deluxe edition, which adds depth and softness to this dancing and starry indie rock album.
The original edition of "Back to Reality", led by the bouncing track "Dancing at the Paradise", has been widely used by the media, and was particularly lucky to be playlisted by Spotify, alongside Phoenix and Arcade Fire. This windfall has allowed the album to get several thousand plays and achieve public recognition.
The deluxe edition, introduced by the single "Mort-Vivant" is enriched with 7 new songs.
A slow tempo, careful arrangements and the subtlety of French, Comett's native language, reinforce the sensitivity and depth of the album, making us discover a new facet of Comett.
However, these 7 new songs almost never happened...
Comett is an alternative pop music project founded in 2005 in Tours by Alexandre Canola and has been based in Paris for the last 10 years.
He was joined between 2009 & 2016 by Julien Gauthier (Drums / Programming).
JD Beauvalet (www.lesinrocks.com) wrote of their first album "MY REALITY IS YOUR FICTION", that the music "frolics with the cosmos and the stars, in all its excessiveness and its ambitions".
The second album, BACK TO REALITY, a superb collection of 8 songs, retains the pop and delicate side of the duo, but develops organically towards rock songs, honouring its main influences: Radiohead and the Notwist.
Comett has also been able to transmit the energy of this album on a few live dates, in Paris and elsewhere in France.
After recording a demanding rock album, Alexandre felt the need to write new, more intimate songs. However ithese songs were set aside for several months. After many reworkings, it appeared that these songs were intimately related to the original version of the album and that they could be a promising complement.
These new songs were to be only acoustic, like Rodrigo Amarante, one of the great influences, with Thom Yorke and Damon Albarn.
Nevertheless, as the writing progressed, these arrangements began to take on an even greater depth.
The recording was made solo by Alexandre at the TRAM 28 studio alongside Fabien Tessier (The Appartments, 49 Swimming pool ...) who had recorded the first part.
These new songs, besides being in French, offer a different colour palette and an assured sensitivity.
After the song "Back to reality", simple and free of all subterfuge, Comett continues with "Eldorado", an electro pop song with dark synths and sustained rhythms with shades of some Thom Yorke solo albums. The lyrics are inspired by the film "Dheepan" by Jacques Audiard.
The second song, which is also the first single "Mort-vivant", takes more classic pop song themes, with a carved and heady melody.
The album then goes on with much softer and more sensitive songs like "Obstacles", and more dreamy ones like "La nuit" and "Ma réalité" (acoustic version).
The song "Le dernier duel", deliberately invoking a Western feel, transports the listener into a different narrative.
With this new deluxe edition of the album "BACK TO REALITY", Comett brings a depth and sensitivity that blends harmoniously with the refined and dancing side of his pop music.
