Collider are Ben Corbett and Scott D'Souza, two London based artists/producers who share a mutual interest in 'electro-tweakery' and who have a long history together of noise-making in many varied forms.
From their first collaboration in signed, thrashy punk/pop outfit 'Phobia' in 1988, they have gone on to meander blissfully down various musical avenues over the years. In their band days they supported the likes of the Manic Street Preachers, Nirvana, Blur, The Cult, PWEI, Mega City Four, Senseless Things, Midway Still, The Lurkers and The Popguns to name but a few, toured throughout the UK and made a few records.
They were championed at the time by the late, great John Peel on Radio 1 and released three EP's and two albums over a three year period and gained regular, favourable reviews from the likes of Mark Sutherland, Steve Lamacq and Simon Williams. They were often in the key music press and featured on the 'What's on the NME stereo' several times. Their 5'11" EP was widely acclaimed at the time as the new wave of post/punk 'Fraggle Rock' and was aired repeatedly on Radio 1 increasing the bands popularity almost over night.
After the group split in 1991, Ben played and wrote original material with several other bands and developed his career as a sound balancer in the world of television with ITV. Scott meanwhile had ditched his drumkit and switched to turntables picking up on the sweeping wave at the time that was Acid House.
Now Scott has a rich history as an accomplished DJ having travelled far and wide to play alongside the likes of Carl Cox, Danny Rampling, Paolo Mojo, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, John Digweed, Billy Nasty, Dave Clark, Boy George and Mark Ronson...the list goes on. He also works tirelessly with London based celebrity and corporate event specialists Velvet Entertainment in the Event & Hospitality industry providing bespoke DJ services and has worked with the likes of the BAFTA's, P&G, Talk PR, BlackBerry Curve, Soho House Group, Urban Caprice and The Hospital Club.
Ben has built up an enviable reputation for his production skills and technical knowledge and is highly sought after in the world of TV, radio and now clubland. He has composed soundtracks for a number of short films and written ad music for the likes of Adidas and various production companies both in the UK and abroad.
The boys got back together in 2007 to make electronic music under the name 'Collider'. Drawing on all their previous creative experience and influences, they got their act together and signed for Axis Trax UK in early 2008, one of the UK's fastest rising and now very well respected dance music labels. Now they produce for a raft of other labels and are managed by Andy Neville at Big Man Management.
The mixture of Scott's DJ experience and Ben's musical OCD means that Collider productions are always a cutting edge fusion of bleepy tech house and pulsing, uplifting electro with liberal dark and deep moments lurking just beneath the surface. For more info click on the links below...
