Lyrically rich with driving rhythm, Coldwater Road gives storytelling a reason to dance. From Vancouver (2012), original songs cover train-robbers and trench warfare to young lovers painting the town red. Their style reaches across Folk, Americana, Rock, and Country, like Shakey Graves and Dawes. The band is currently mixing their third studio album, a blend of outlaw ballads and favourite covers, from The Hip to Lana DelRay. In 2016 CwRoad released Horses and Guns and Trucks; a five-song EP produced by the band’s own Stephanie Hodgins and mixed by Shawn Cole (Yukon Blonde, Bend Sinister). Founded by singer/guitarist Patrick Spencer, CwRoad performs with up to five players, but can often be found in more intimate settings as a duo. Rich harmonies and a wealth of textures, Coldwater Road can be gritty and acoustic or layered and full of melody, but always toe-tapping.
From a cabin in the snow, Winter 2013 brought the release of their debut album Street Side, an honest and raw album tracked live off the floor that showcases the acoustic core from which the band was born. Coldwater Road were participants in the 2013 Peak Performance Project, the 2015 SFU LAUNCH Festival, and recent recipients of a FACTOR Demo grant. The band has performed across the Canadian Railway as part of the VIA Rail Artist on Board program, have completed numerous tours throughout Western Canada, and have showcased in Los Angeles and New York City. The band released their second album, The Woods, in 2014 and their latest EP, Horses and Guns and Trucks in 2016. This summer, in addition to weekly performances with the Mahoney & Sons group in Vancouver, CwRoad returned to Edmonton, and played community concert series in Revelstoke, Brentwood Bay and Duncan. In 2016 and 2017 they were runner-up at the IMA Songwritting contest (Arts Wells), and in 2017 and 2018 had songs in the finals and semifinals of the Canadian Songwriting Contest.
Coldwater Road features Patrick Spencer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica) and Charles Wesley (electric guitar, vocals), with a roving mix of talented miscreants.
