Dissolution & Suspension - Movement I by Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm published on 2018-06-13T20:55:32Z Dissolution & Suspension is a contemporary reinterpretation of Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s string quartet in F-minor (opus 5) from 1892. Where we usually perceive a string quartet as a unity, this electronic work is based on the separation and spacious demonstration which translates into a 4-channel loudspeaker setup, so we hereby find ourselves in the midst of the quartet. Advanced audio analysis of recordings of the individual acoustic instruments of the string quartet pose the foundation of this work, and Nielsen's melodic and folk-like tone is transformed into dense (dis)harmonies and almost frozen processes and developments. Dissolution & Suspension unfolds in four movements like it’s derivation. However with this record release the project takes yet another spacial transition, as it consists of a reworked version in the stereo format, thus returning into a somewhat unified form. Dissolution & Suspension was commissioned by The Danish Cultural Institute to celebrate the 150th birthday of Carl Nielsen (1865-1913). The world premiere was at the National Library in Riga, Latvia in connection with Danish Cultural Institute's 25th anniversary August 2015. The project is realized with kind support of the Danish Arts Foundation and The Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Foundation.
