Er produziert seine Musik mit dem Körper, denn sein Instrument ist die Stimme, dabei arbeitet er auch mit elektroakustischen Mitteln, ursprüngliche Hilfsmittel wie Mikrophone und Effektprozessoren werden zu originären Instrumenten. Das Besondere an seiner Arbeitsweise ist die Kombination von Komposition und Improvisation, die Verbindung avantgardistischer Vokaltechniken mit klassischen Musikstilen und ihre wechselseitige Durchbrechung. Christian Wolz ist aber nicht nur Vokalkünstler, Musiker und Komponist, er ist immer auch Performance- und Bühnenkünstler. Der Vokalkünstler hat eigene Vokaltechniken entwickelt, dem psychiatrischen Bereich entlehnte Formen der Glossolalie (Zungenreden), eine selbst kreierte und weiterentwickelte Symbolsprache, neu gebildete Wortschöpfungen (Neologismen) und Linguallaute. Christian Wolz lädt traditionell sein Publikum ein zur Auseinandersetzung mit einer verborgenen Schicht, geht an das, was im Innersten bewegt, ja oft erschüttert, an das, was es in einer materiell bestimmten Gesellschaft offiziell gar nicht geben darf, und das gerade deshalb umso heftiger die Ungeübten überrollt. Seine Kunst stimuliert beim Publikum freie Assoziationen ohne Manipulation oder Moral. Denkprozesse zählen zu den Nachwirkungen seiner Auftritte und Arbeiten. Christian Wolz is not a vocal performing show-off, but rather a convinced artist in a symbiosis of art forms: photographer, instrumentalist, singer, actor and director all in one.
