CHRISTIAN BRUNA (Camouflage, Liquid Brilliants, The Seed, NYC)
"Big love to Mr. Bruna...This guy is the epitome of DNB in the USA.. He has the passion, the heart and the soul.. DNB will rise again and hopefully you can start Camo again one day... If all promoters had Mr. Bruna love for this music in the States dnb would be where dubstep is right now..."
~ Fabio of "Fabio & Grooverider"
"NYC's #1 Drum & Bass Club DJ."
~ DJ ESP aka Woody McBride
A true native New Yorker, Christian was born, raised, and educated in NYC. In the Fall of 1991 he got his start in the Electronic Dance Music scene at the early age of 16 attending Future Shock Friday's at Limelight, and shortly thereafter N.A.S.A. at the legendary Club Shelter. As one of the first street promoters of the infamous N.A.S.A. party's he helped kick start the beginning of a new era in dance music. With the earnings he made from promoting, Christian invested in building a record collection ranging from House, Techno, and Trance, as well as Breakbeat, Hardcore, and Jungle - representing the gamut of music in the rave scene at the time. He then began feverishly learning how to dj and getting his first gigs behind the wheels of steel.
Meanwhile in those formative years he was also a champion skateboarder winning local contests and skating with friends who went on to become top pros, additionally, "CBee" (Christian's alias/street tag) was also a recognized graffiti writer/artist regarded by many as one of the most original to come out of Queens within that era. In 1994 CB earned 15 minutes of fame when he became part of the original cast in the cult classic film KIDS (look for him in the Nitrous scene). Shortly thereafter, Christian looking to get more involved in the music industry began working at the notorious Satellite Records, as well as Temple Records downstairs from the infamous Liquid Sky store.
In the summer of 1995 he became a regular guest dj at local raves, outlaw parties and premiere electronic dance music club nights throughout NYC and the Tri-State area. Soon he was accepted into the ranks of NYC's elite and most sought after Jungle/Drum & Bass rave dj's. Performing at parties both locally and out-of-state at the tender age of 19, he accomplished what many still dream of today. Since then he has performed at countless events from coast to coast and played for nearly every major promoter and club in NYC. His 18 year dj career has taken him to many venues throughout the United States, and internationally to Buenos Aires, London, Montreal, and many more. He has also dj'ed in some of NYC/NJ's most legendary dance clubs and spaces such as: Club Shelter, Downtime, Guernica, Hammerstein Ballroom, Hunka Bunka Ballroom, Knitting Factory, Limelight, Octagon, Palladium, Randalls Island, Roseland Ballroom, Roxy, Save The Robots, Studio B, Sullivan Room, Tunnel, and Twilo, amongst others.
In March of 1997 at 21 years of age Christian created perhaps what he is mostly known for today; NYC's longest running 21+ weekly Drum & Bass party called Camouflage, which celebrated its 14 year anniversary in March of 2011 and ended its weekly reign on Tuesday August 30th of 2011. Christian became one of the only D&B DJ's in the world to hold a weekly residency for practically 15 years, which of course is in conjunction with Camouflage. As the main man responsible for the inception of this party, he has been a key figure in the development of the NYC D&B scene since the early days. He kept the original Camouflage vibe consistently alive through thick-and-thin for nearly 15 years week after week, despite the difficulties involved in keeping any weekly party alive for that long in NYC or anywhere in the world for that matter. Especially since the party was held on Tuesday nights!
Highly respected and talented artists that have been invited to Camouflage and Camouflage related events include: Adam F, A-Sides, Baron, Bailey, Big Bud, Bryan Gee, Chase & Status, Clipz, DJ Craze, Cyantific, DB, DJ Dara, Dieselboy, Dillinja & Lemon D, Doc Scott, Ed Rush & Optical, Fanu, Fabio, Fierce, DJ Flight, Freaky Flow, Future Prophecies, J Majik, John B, J.Smooth, DJ Kane, Kemo MC, Loxy, LTJ Bukem, Marcus Intalex, MC Tali, Micky Finn, Nico, Odi, Perfect Combination, Pete Rann, Q-Project, R.A.W., Reid Speed, Shimon, Shy FX, Simon "Bassline" Smith, Skynet, Stranjah, Sub Focus, Suv, Syncopix, Tayla, Tee Bee, Total Science, Trace, Twisted Individual, and too many others to mention!
Christian continues to be a highly respected and talented dj/promoter and producer who returns to his hometown of NYC at least once a year to get down with his amazing family and friends. With the help of the Camo crew they manage to successfully assemble and produce the seminal branded one-off events for many loyal fans while keeping the original Camouflage vibe alive and well year after year. His dj sets have always shown diversity, quickness, and surprises each time he performs at his own gigs, or for the few selected promoters he chooses to work with from time to time. His cutting edge selection ranges all across the board covering the full range of the Drum & Bass scope. Get ready as the Camouflage Chameleon brings an authentic blend of past, present and future Jungle/Drum & Bass to a city near you in such a way only he can do.
Last, but not least, almost 7 years ago Christian began to produce on his own and came out with his first official solo release in December of 2009. "Imagine That" is out on a Russian label called Liquid Brilliants. It managed to reach #77 in Beatport's Top 100 D&B Downloads. A feat very few artists manage to achieve with their first release. His follow up called "Soul Train (feat. Kech Rec)" also on Liquid Brilliants was included in Beatport Chart's - 10 Must Hear Drum & Bass Tracks - Week 17 (21.04.2011). Both tunes have been remastered and rereleased by the same label in recent compilations since the original release dates. Recently in 2013 and 2014 he released his first original Techno track called "End of Line" and a Drum & Bass remix for NYC underground House legend Sameer's original tune entitled "Giovanni's Thought's". Both tracks were released on Bill Kraemer's reaping label called "The Seed".
Christian has quietly resided in the Midwest since September of 2011 where his daughter and son also live. He is currently accepting offers for a 2014 Summer DJ tour and is mixing his favorite tunes using Traktor DJ for iOS and Traktor Pro alongside the Traktor Kontrol Z1 mixer. Plans for more music production and the start of a record label are in the works for 2014 and beyond, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for more promising news.
Better. Stronger. Faster.
