Chelsea Loew

Chelsea Loew (b. 1992) is an active composer, music educator, choral alto, and pianist. Focusing primarily on composition, she has premiered her music across the US in a variety of venues ranging from school auditoriums for educational outreach to commissioned works in various concert halls. She has written for a wide array of instrumentations including works for solo piano, duo, string quartet, SATB choir, chamber orchestra, and symphony orchestra. She has received commissions by several astute ensembles including the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the College of Charleston Orchestra, the Taylor Festival Choir, and the Cane Bay Cobra Chorale. Chelsea received her B.A. with a concentration in Music Theory and Composition from the College of Charleston (2010-2014). She studied composition with Yiorgos Vassilanodakis and Edward Hart and studied piano with Robin Zemp. Upon graduation, she attended the European American Musical Alliance (2014) in Paris where she studied with Narcis Bonet. She began her Artist Certificate at the College of Charleston (2014-2015) the following year to continue studying with Yiorgos Vassilandonakis. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Composition at the Eastman School of Music (2015-2017) where she studies with Robert Morris. Chelsea desires to enrich the community through instilling a love and understanding of music to various generations. She currently serves as graduate assistant for the Composition Department at the Eastman School of Music, professional alto member of the Taylor Festival Choir, and choir director and staff accompanist for Plank South Elementary School. While in Charleston, Chelsea taught piano and music theory for five years at Encore Music Studios, was a music theory tutor at the College of Charleston, played piano for the CofC Contemporary Ensemble, served as the alto section leader for CofC Concert Choir and the Church of the Holy Communion, and took the role of assistant director for CofC Concerts. Chelsea has received numerous awards for her work including School of the Arts Scholar (2014), Outstanding Student Award (2014), Sue Simons Wallace Award for Excellence in Music (2013), and the Rob Taylor Award for Outstanding Musicianship (2013).
