On the Byzantine calendar, today is the feast of the holy and glorious prophet Elias (Elijah). Today's sound file is the "Polyeleos," the psalms of praise sung on Sundays and feasts at Matins in the Byzantine Churches. This setting is in Greek, arranged by Greek-American composer Anna Gallos. The Schola Cantorum of St. Peter the Apostle sang this in a concert in the crypt church of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The concert was entitled "Music for the Summer Feasts," and was part of the "Orientale Lumen" conference in 2001.
