Professor Dr. Tanja A. Börzel and Professor Dr. Thomas Risse on "Governance Without Hierarchy?" by CCRJ published on 2016-05-14T21:39:48Z Europeanization as well as the diffusion of European ideas and policies within and outside the EU have contributed toward the redefinition of statehood. In particular, regionalism has provided means of limiting state power. Arguably, state monopoly over the means of violence or it’s ability to make and implement policies are currently shared with global and regional governance institutions. However, limited statehood is not an ungoverned space where anarchy and chaos prevail. The provision of collective goods and services is possible even under adverse conditions of fragile or failed statehood. In fact, external governance actors can enhance the capacity of authority structures in weak states, or directly contribute to the provision of collective goods and services. Professor Dr. Tanja A. Börzel and Professor Thomas Risse will discuss their recent research on these matters.
