Five years ago Dean Rosenzweig left the United States. Seeking new inspiration for his art and music, he traveled to Europe, found Berlin, and found himself. After some art shows in his adopted city, Dean found himself, again, as the live guitarist for IAMX. The next four years saw him touring internationally for IAMX, immersed in electronic music production and DJing.
Dean decided to leave IAMX In November 2009. Almost immediately, he conceived the solo project DJ CBk, and began writing and recording an album. Once it was complete Dean auditioned musicians in the hope of finding a keyboardist to help translate DJ CBk from the studio to the stage, but the search proved fruitless. Soon a DJ tour beckoned, and the search was postponed.
In February 2010, about to set off on tour, Dean placed an ad to sublet his flat while on the road. A girl named Megg Morales, then living in Brooklyn, NY, replied. When Megg arrived at his flat, Dean was packing away his studio to make room for his new tenant. Within a short time of their meeting, Dean was unpacking and rebuilding his music and art studios for Megg to use in his absence.
Dean returned to a flat filled with Megg’s art and music. She played him some of her tracks. They were dark, raw, metal-influenced...and really good. Dean asked Megg what she knew about electronic music. She replied, “nothing really…" With that, CBk/NAkED CUDDLEZ was born.
Dean’s spiky electro and razor-edged techno, found electro-punk synergy with Megg’s unbridled rock n roll swagger. CBk/NAkED CUDDLEZ scrapped Dean’s solo album, and began re-recording it from scratch as a duo.
During recording, CBk/NAkED CUDDLEZ traveled through the Czech Republic and Poland on a tour of packed and sweaty shows. While on the road, Megg told Dean her story.
Megg was as an art and fashion model as a teenager, and soon found herself, uncomfortable in the glare of the public eye, as a contestant on the reality show America’s Next Top Model. Megg was preoccupied with music and the expression of art. Her heart wasn’t in the competition, and she was eliminated. Megg kept moving forward, relocating from Hollywood, CA to Brooklyn, NY. She made metal and grunge music, and combined modeling with art and music for her Reckless Redemption project.
Megg, like Dean, soon decided to take the plunge and relocate to a place where artistic expression is encouraged: Berlin. Embracing spontaneity, Megg departed for Berlin without a plan. Since arriving in Berlin, Megg’s journey had led to Dean, to CBk/NAkED CUDDLEZ, to new genres of music and to new meaningful expressions of her artistic impulses.
CBk/NAkED CUDDLEZ is two artists, art and music, punk and dance, raw and in-your-face, danceable and shoutable, and imbued with the unmistakable energy of Berlin
