"Evolution happens every day,
Don't fear the change,
Just pave the way."
Sean Hooser (CB4) got his first exposure to an underground music scene at 14 playing drums
in punk/hardcore bands on the easy coast. 95-00 Southern NH was becoming a hot-spot for
house and breaks and crazy warehouse parties. Being a drummer the natural progression for a
percussionist seemed to be to start playing records.
With plenty of parties and clubs to feed off of he started absorbing all the various styles
of electronic music and really started to get into a groove with the mutant disco sounds
being pushed by the likes of Dj Midas, MO7S, Leap, Onnasis and many others. Wanting to
become more proactive in the music community, CB4 and a friend started a music magazine that
focused on electronic music related material around the New England area. "Smitten" was
born. This magazine ran for roughly a year and ceased when his partner moved to Florida.
This particular endeavor gave him a real insight into the inner workings of the electronic
music industry and really helped focus his efforts and broaden the horizons.
In early "02" he moved to Orlando, FL. This is where he started to really make headway as an
artist being able to get comfortable in larger venues without being subjected to a jury of
his peers. Opening on a regular basis for DJs from from Orlando based labels with strong
ties worldwide allowed him to make a name for himself quickly within Central Florida and
beyond as well his first radio appearances on 96.9 Foundation Radio with seminal Orlando
producers The Invisible Men and Juan Sanchez. With musical leanings ranging from dark
progressive to deep tech, his first few years in Florida combined with the knowledge and the
lessons of his mentors back home in Manchester helped shape and inspire his sound into what
it is today, a streamlined, sophisticated and robust mix of techno, tribal bass and funk.
Over the course of the next decade CB4 teamed up with Vizion 1 Entertainment, an Orlando
based promotions group, that eventually came to be known as the Premier CFL based event
promotions group. Vizion 1 was in instrumental part of the puzzle for CB4, placing him on
some of the largest festival bills in the United States, like the Annual Ultra Music
Festival, Magical Maydaze, Global Gathering, and The Bang! Music Fest. These huge events
helped as far as exposure to a global audience as well as experience with some of the top
names in the dance music industry.
Now fast foward to 2009 and into the present when the final but most important pieces of the
puzzle are now starting to come together. A random encounter with one of the Champions of
the early Orlando dance music scene, DJ D-Extreme, and a chance meeting with Electronic
Dance Music 's essential golden boy, Superstar DJ Keoki. Both of these encounters have made
it possible for CB4 to make the jump from being a merely a disc jockey into an actual
artist. As well being mentors professionally they also have helped him grow as a person.
Without the guidance of these two as well as DJ Midas, this puzzle would never have gotten
this close to done.
"I hope you guys enjoy the new mix, I had a lot of fun putting this one together and stay
tuned for more upcoming mixes from myself, and finally have some plans coming for my
original production stuff as CB4 as well as stuff from Coin Laundry. An intense side project
with my production partner, Centrifusion.
From these three wise men, my aforementioned sensei's, this ultimately is what I have
contemplated on. There is an old line from an early battle record that used to say "What is
a dj if he can't scratch?" The best answer to that would probably be another question. "What
is a person if he can't laugh?" Those two questions are the two things that make up the
quintessential essence of DJ'ing and performing, or producing and playing as an artist"
