GIL SCOTT-HERON - ANGOLA, LOUISIANA (CASBAH 73 TRIBUTE EDIT) FREE DOWNLOAD by Casbah 73 published on 2011/06/27 13:35:13 +0000 Includes excerpts from "The Bicentennial Blues", a track which I was none too fond of as a relative youngster as it seemed to me then that The Blues was something older people invoked whenever they wanted to make you feel like you didn't know anything, I was also irritated by the very specific and (and to my very young self) meaningless political references in this track. Back then, it was all about "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", "Home Is Where The Hatred Is", "The Bottle", "It's Your World". Well, time passes and I went on to become a huge GSH fan, I would probably have been happy to sit and listen to him reading from the phone book, let alone the Bicentennial Blues, and what seemed to me almost passé then has proven to be remarkably prescient today; the names have changed, the culprits haven't. Let's hope that he achieves the position he really deserves, and soon. People like him don't come along very often, he will be sorely missed.
