Patrol Sergeant Jeremiah Peery - Spanish Immersion Pilot Program - This is Our Town by Carl Pelletier published on 2022-06-09T13:31:17Z Jeremiah Peery joins Del Ray in the KJAX studio (93.5 FM) to talk about a new pilot program in the Jackson Police Department. Jeremiah and 2 other members of the Jackson PD travelled to Costa Rica for a 3 week Spanish immersion program. The team that participated in this program included a member of Patrol, Victim Services, and Investigations. The individuals were assigned to separate host families in different regions of Costa Rica. The group was able to dramatically improve their Spanish fluency as well as interact with the local community including local law enforcement. It is estimated that upwards of 35% of Jackson's population speaks Spanish as their primary language. This pilot program was launched in order to allow members of our local law enforcement and victim services to increase Spanish fluency in order to be able to better serve our community. Each week a representative from the Town of Jackson joins Del Ray in the studio to talk about important events, upcoming meetings and innovative programs in our town. The interview is aired live on KJAX (93.5 FM) at 8:30am each Wednesday and again that night at 6:00pm on KMTN (96.9 FM).
