Anna Day and the Great Shake Out - This is Our Town by Carl Pelletier published on 2021-10-20T18:42:44Z Anna Day, Program Specialist with Teton County Emergency Management joins Del Ray in the KJAX (93.5 FM) studios for this week's edition of This is Our Town. Anna talks about the "World's World's Largest Earthquake Drill" which is taking place on Thursday, October 21 at 10:21am. Teton County Emergency Managemement is inviting all community members to take part in an earthquake preparedness drill at 10:21am. On 10/21 at 10:21am, participants are asked to practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On wherever they are so they know what to do during an actual earthquake. Participation is meant to be easy and flexible, so you can do your drill at a different date and/or time if that works better for you. Here are the components you should include in your drill, at minimum: 1. Make sure everyone (at home or in the office) knows the scheduled date and time for the drill, and how to properly Drop, Cover, and Hold On. 2. Appoint someone to be in charge of notification. At the pre-determined time, announce via the public announcement system, email, cell phone/text message, or verbal direction: "The earthquake drill has begun. Drop, Cover, and Hold On." While down on the floor, people look around at what would be falling on them in a real earthquake. These items should be secured or moved after the drill. 3. After at least one minute, announce that the shaking is over and that everyone can stand up again. 4. Have each person note the location of the two exits nearest to them, as well as the closest fire extinguisher. Listen in each Wednesday morning at 8:30am as a representative from the Town of Jackson goes on the air with Del Ray to talk about important events taking place in our community.
