*Irish Music Award „Top Group“*
*Irish Music Award „Best New Irish Artist“*
Cara was formed in 2003, rooted in Irish and Scottish traditional music, but with ambitions to create a new
and unique sound.
After winning the Irish Music Award „Best New Irish Artist“ Cara sets out for new
Jeana Leslie (vocals, piano, fiddle) and Gudrun Walther (vocals, fiddle, viola) are in perfect command of
their instruments but above all it is their voices that enthrall the audience. They bring new life to traditional
ballads and their interpretations of their own songs are guaranteed to raise goosepimples!
It would be difficult to find a more talented young musician to emerge from the vibrant Irish trad music scene than Ryan Murphy (uilleann pipes, flute, whistles). His brilliant technique, faultless style, unique tone and expressiveness have earned him seven All-Ireland and two Oireachtas titles on the pipes .
Jürgen Treyz (guitars) has his own concept of “backing”. His sound is characterised by well thought out and
exciting harmonic and rhythmic accompaniment and beautiful solos.
With Rolf Wagels the band adds Germanys best (and biggest) Bodhrán player as a special guest if he is available.
Cara is always very busy with appearances in Europe and the US. They performed sold-out concerts and received standing ovations in Brittany, Ireland, England, France Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and home ground Germany.
2007 saw them touring the USA for the first time, and then once or twice every year – and all being very successful
tours! Almost every single concert finished with standing ovations from the crowd . Cara played the
main stages of some of America’s finest and biggest folk festivals and the majority of promoters re-booked the band immediately after
the tour - something that according to „Real Good Music“ (who worked with artists such as Old Blind Dogs,
Gráda, Danú, Téada and many others) doesn’t happen very often in this business. Everybody is really excited.
"Now here's a band determined to take the Irish music world by storm! Cara's blend of styles and sounds is unique and refreshing." Kevin Crawford, Lunasa
"When I first heard the CD of CARA it was for me the most interesting sound of Celtic Music that I had ever heard - and god knows I had heard many before!" Pat Garrett, RGM
