London residing, Franco-Canadian Chloé Raunet aka C.A.R. is a unique underground producer and lyricist who’s been immersed in the world of post-punk, cold wave and her own brand of off-kilter synth-pop since the days fronting her band Battant. A self-trained musician, she writes, composes and produces everything on her own. Raunet is the first to say her approach is punk - very much a DIY process of trial and error. The result is playful, machine-driven and dark.
Following a handful of singles for Kill The DJ, her debut solo album My Friend came out in 2014. It was followed by a move to cutting edge UK label, Ransom Note, and a second LP; PINNED in 2018.
C.A.R.’s music travels between glacial electronica, post-punk and warming, introspective pop, all emanating from a self-confessed crush on too many genres. She’s shared the stage with many artists, including opening for Cat Power at the Paris Olympia and touring with Gesaffelstein and Teleman, whilst the roll call of legendary European venues C.A.R.’s played includes Berghain and Le Bataclan. This past year, she performed at Nuits Sonores and was invited to be part of the Red Bull Music Festival Moscow, where she created a bespoke audio-visual show and collaborated with Simple Symmetry.
Raunet also DJs and co-hosts a fortnightly show on NTS Radio called 239EF (formally Latete Atoto), and as well as her own music, C.A.R.’s vocals have found themselves adorning the tracks of others. Most recently she’s appeared alongside Trevor Jackson, Mount Kismet and Get A Room. CARAXES, a project with Red Axes was an underground sensation. She also featured on Maceo Plex's hit MIRROR ME (Kompakt) and penned lyrics on Gesaffelstein's highly acclaimed debut ALEPH. She’s worked with Andrew Weatherall, Suzanne Kraft, Marc Houle, Ivan Smagghe, Krikor, Padded Cell, Ruede Hagelstein, +++ and currently has a new project with Anna Lann.
