We're working up on the cover, it will be interesting, Krum dragging Nikiphorus and about to strike his head off :) the song is recorded. I'll post link when it is. 2018-06-21T00:53:13Z Comment by Bulgarian History Podcast @egregoreband: hey sorry I never got back to you on that second question. I'm updating the blog now and just saw this. So the term "Byzantine" wasn't invented until centuries after the Empire collapsed. The Byzantines always referred to themselves as Romans. Also, who knows what Krum drank from the skull or whether his "dry regime" was only for the average people and not for himself (it's not like there was media to talk about it). 2018-05-26T11:01:33Z Comment by egregore @bulgarian-history-podcast: Thank you! Well, it is a very metal moment - Krum made a drinking goblet out of Nikephorus' skull :) One thing perplexes me, is that Krum is said to have instituted a dry regime (type of Prohibition) during his reign, yet at the same time he makes a drinking cup of this guy's head. If you don't mind answering a question - Michael the Syrian mentions Nikephoros being a Roman emperor, would that be correct, or is he a Byzantine emperor? 2017-03-14T06:21:10Z Comment by Bulgarian History Podcast @egregoreband: That's so cool! Metal has never been my thing but I love that this episode is helping someone to make music. Hope it's coming along well! 2017-03-13T21:41:01Z Comment by egregore Very well done! I am in the process of writing a metal tune "The Skull of my Enemy" and this podcast helped as a good synopsis of all the historical sources I am currently using. 2017-03-02T11:09:50Z
