Flute player (piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute), non idiomatic improviser, sound-space explorer, instant composer.
Bruno Gussoni (born in 1951) has been performing improvised music since the second half of the '60s.
Initially he was influenced by free jazz (especially by Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy and Don Cherry, but also by others), and by the creative music from Chicago and other American scenes (Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Leo Smith, Douglas Ewart, Julius Hemphill Frank Lowe and many others) .
Later he began to practice total improvisation playing with many radical improvisers from all the world.
His main instruments are the flutes, used to create a unique and personal language producing experimental flute sounds. He is not interested in the use of the flutes as “academic instruments”, he has given up on traditional techniques in favour of extended techniques like un-pitched breaths, multiple sounds, harmonics, overtones, whispers, microtones, keys percussion, and other sounds, all combined with breath, silence, soundscapes… exploring the acoustic possibility of the flutes, in the sound space and in relation with other improvisers.
He played/plays with Don Cherry, Frank Lowe, Wadada Leo Smith, Jeanne Lee, Peter Kowald, Michel Doneda, Tetsu Saitoh, Edoardo Ricci, Claudio Ferrari, Iao Aea, Claudio Parodi, Matthias Schubert, Ove Volquartz, Joshua Weitzel, Ulrike Lentz, Anja Kreysing, Angela Dersee, Jane Rigler, Henry Koek, Arnold Cabott, André Darius, Eugenio Sanna, Marcello Magliocchi, Angelo Contini, Guy-Frank Pellerin, Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg, Matthias Boss, Lawrence Casserley, Daniel Thompson, Adrian Northover, Willy Van Buggenhout, Tom Jackson, Martin Mayes, Maresuke Okamoto, Bernadette Zeillinger, Diego Mune, Jean Demey, Luca Antonazzo, Marco Malasomma, Domenico Saccente, Alessandro Semeraro, Vanessa Pettendorfer, Alessandro Bona, Alen Grassi, Luca Borsetti, Angelina Ertel, Eric Arn, the poet Silvia Mayer, Didgiulia Kitana Gri, Walter Kortanek, Andreas Eichorn, Elisabeth Kelvin, Herbert Lacina, Edward Reardon, Stephan Brodsky, Alessandro Massa, Stefano Agostini, Stefano Toschi, Phil Gibbs, Benedict Taylor, Joao Pedro Viegas, Carlo Mascolo, Felice Furioso, Yoram Rosilio, J.J.Duerinckx, Dan Roth, Sandra Rivas Davila, Anton Mobin, Roberto Del Piano, Nicola Guazzaloca, Filippo Monico, Enrico Del Piano, Roberto Lazzarino, David Lucchesi, Riccardo La Foresta, Andrea Borghi, Devid Ciampalini, Carolin Goedeke and many others.
