Vintage Wine Blues (new version) by Broker Jonathan published on 2013-02-12T23:57:17Z I've been away from recording for a month or so - post debut album blues, they call it -and figured I'd ease myself back in gently with a re-recording of this gloom-fest from about a year ago. I wanted to hear the guitar cleaner; I didn't want to hear the fridge-freezer humming and trucks rolling by in the background; I thought the levels needed changing and I could do the voice better. I'll live with it for a few days and see if I've achieved any of these things. ;-) Genre alternative/acoustic/spoken word Comment by ProgRockDan1 Love the lyrics 2013-06-19T14:10:58Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @sunnidayz: I say the F word in this song and I do feel bad for those it offends. I definitely don't set out to be offensive but at the same time I did choose to use it and I don't really regret it. Does that clear things up? ;-) Hope you're well Sandy. Have missed you too. 2013-03-31T22:29:32Z Comment by Sunnidayz @brokerjonathan: I am laughing....that is cursing? You should feel awful...oh Jonathan, sure have missed you...smiling at you Sir~! 2013-03-31T20:18:57Z Comment by Sunnidayz @brokerjonathan: No I really believe it....am I naive or what? LOL~ 2013-03-31T20:17:13Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @izzy-ryder: Many thanks Izzy - that's exactly what I was aiming for here. So glad you liked it. 2013-03-19T16:56:34Z Comment by Isabelle Ryder Really neat. Hanging on every word. 2013-03-18T21:40:08Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @robynyoulten: Hey Robyn - no I really didn't drink it. I just liked the idea that it was waiting to be drunk and almost judging me while it waited. The last part is made up. Maybe it's best to remain uncorked. thanks very much for your great comment. Much appreciated! 2013-03-15T08:38:33Z Comment by robynyoulten Heya Mr.Jonathan! Don't drink it!! I had one given to me when I was born to be opened on my 21st - cherry wine - we all stood round at the midnight hour, popped the cork and NO ONE was game to taste it -so we thought - one guy did -man was he sick!! Ha! Luv this song with it's narrative and minimal guitar and percussion -DID you drink it really?? Peace :)) 2013-03-14T14:59:19Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @the-musical-crucible: many thanks for such a great comment - really glad it held your attention. has to do that if it's going to work. 2013-02-21T00:27:57Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @john-hollingum: thanks John. I really like that comment. The father's gift brings an unintended pressure in some sense to be like him. And the pressure almost forces the rebellion. 2013-02-21T00:25:25Z Comment by ScottJenx @brokerjonathan: I would like to have the contents tested as a precaution. ; ) 2013-02-19T22:50:50Z Comment by John Hollingum This is so good. I've had bottles of champagne like that. It's such a good study of how possessions can possess us, with maybe a hint that we can never live up to our fathers or our possessions 2013-02-19T21:45:46Z Comment by Riff Beach @brokerjonathan: LOVED IT! Great approach and creativity. 2013-02-19T21:09:29Z Comment by The Musical Crucible Now that's what I call a story - kept me captivated all the way through just like a great song or story should. This is fabulous man - really dig it!!! 2013-02-19T18:08:41Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @scottjenx: maybe I should take a picture of it along with today's newspaper. I seriously doubt whether I'll ever drink it - part of the furniture now. Many thanks Scott for keeping the intrigue alive! ;-) 2013-02-19T17:51:53Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @you-and-me: So glad you think so. thanks very much for the listen and comment. 2013-02-19T17:48:02Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @hessen-riff: Great to hear, Hessen, thanks very much. I always liked this song but felt the recording was too rough. Sometimes I just can't relax about a song of mine when I'm hearing too much noise. Delighted you enjoyed. 2013-02-19T17:47:18Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @dankellington: many thanks Dan. I liked the original too. I just wanted this version cleaner sound-wise ;-) 2013-02-19T17:44:26Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @garysunshine: thanks a lot Gary. I liked the idea of such a significant bottle just being an 'empty' the next morning. I should say the whole thing is made up. I haven't touched a drop of it. Glad you enjoyed. 2013-02-19T17:43:34Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @progrockdan1: thanks for the listen. I originally recorded this as a blues song, but I wasn't really feeling it. I liked the idea of keeping the title, though. 2013-02-19T17:40:17Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @milanazilnik: thanks very much Milana - so glad the story and mood works for you. really appreciate it! 2013-02-19T17:39:02Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @johnny-minstrel: That's such a gratfying comment to receive - thanks very much Pravinand. I liked the original version too and didn't really want to change anything other than the sound quality, which meant re-recording it. 2013-02-19T17:37:01Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @mikegraymusic: thanks very much Mike 2013-02-19T17:34:20Z Comment by Broker Jonathan @seasick-yet-still-docked: many thanks, great to hear. it's a song that needs the narrative to work! 2013-02-19T17:33:59Z Comment by ScottJenx I still think you drank it. This song is about the cover up of that crime. ; ) Nice re-work Jonathan. You are one of the clever ones for sure. 2013-02-19T16:57:30Z Comment by You and Me Cool track! Really like your quiet speaking vocals, brings a great atmosphere to the track :) 2013-02-19T16:23:31Z Comment by Riff Beach Love the spoken word style integrated into this tune. Great job, JB! Very well done - performance and mix. Guitar, vocals, and other textures all work so perfectly together in this tune. :) 2013-02-19T11:10:16Z Comment by Dan Kellington Lovely, Jonathan... Loved the original too. :-) 2013-02-19T11:00:27Z Comment by Gary Sunshine Picked up my empties....nice. guess I didn't listen last time.
