Bob’s Disco – the first 50 years……
My name’s Bob, I like dancing & meeting people & I’m a Libran.
I was born the same time year as Motown, so I guess that it was inevitable that we’d grow up together.
As it’s our 50th anniversary I thought we’d make the effort and record the passing years.
I’m the last of a dying breed of those who have hoarded a room full of records, the march of technology has made sure of that, so I thought we’d record a snap shot, just for old times sake.
My first recollection of playing records – stolen from my cousin next door, on his Dancetti – I was 8 years old. Four years later I had home made twin decks, played through an old guitar amplifier, there was no turning back, the seeds of Bob’s Disco had been planted and I’ve still got those first records today, they’re in one of them cupboards… somewhere…
Over the years, I’ve listened, and played, everybody’s music, without prejudice and judgement. From Motown, Northern Soul, Disco, Punk, Indie, Rock, Dance and what ever it is called that they are playing today. But I guess I’ve always harked back to those days with the old soul and the Dancetti…..
I didn’t invent Bob’s Disco, the audience did. It was all of those people, from the hundreds of parties, weddings, and funerals, that came and shared the soul experience, played and took part.
The DJ roll of honour is substantial, we’re not here to boast, but if you played there, and you know who you are, then you are in good company.
This is not a “Best of” or a “My favourites” list, it’s just a selection of Bob’s Disco Classics, a sample of what has come to be played, suggested by those that listened.
There is no particular order, except for the ones played at the end.
If you had 10,000 records, which one would you play last?
So here it is, the first 50 years of Bob’s Disco…… will the last one out, please turn off the light……..
