The best of music is that which comes from a well of deep experience, rising from an artist who has tasted of the best and worst that life has had to offer and has lived to tell of it. It’s that music that manages to pull listeners in, tapping into rich emotions and transporting them to places they’ve never been before and daring them to believe that dreams and visions can truly come true while bridging across myriad genres to create something truly transcendent and beautiful. And that’s exactly the kind of music that Swedish EDM wunderkind Bo Johnson delivers, each and every time.
Johnson has been at the music business for some time, founding his own record label, BJ Music, in 2003 after a childhood spent learning on a variety of instruments ranging from the flute, piano, guitar, and synthesizer. Those lessons also led him to the world of DJing and to developing his own songs and productions, influenced by a range of influences from Dr. Dre and Tiësto to Phil Collins and Dean Martin. Yet, a dramatic injury at the age of fifteen threatened to derail the artist’s hopes and dreams.
“When I was 15 years old, I had a severe injury to my left leg and after several orthopedic examinations the doctor told me that I would never be able to walk again,” he shares. “However, I refused to give up which is like the story of my life. And after finding a new method and another specialist, big surgeries, half a year laying down with an external metal skeleton around my leg and another half a year with hard and challenging rehab training, I managed to prove the doctors wrong.”
It’s this same energy of combining talented hard work together with his big heart that Johnson brought to the table as the CEO of his label, channeling his talents into helping develop original music, which garnered comparisons to artists like Robin Schulz and Swedish House Mafia, as well as to help produce and promote other artists. Yet, as life would have it, the artist would yet again have to lay aside his musical dreams as he devoted himself to raising his two beautiful children, Oliver and Miranda, and continued to train his body with his newfound passion of bodybuilding.
Now, with eight years having passed, Johnson is back with a vengeance and is ready to reassert himself into the musical scene beginning with his latest single, “Hand in Hand.” Written in collaboration with U.S.-based solo pianist David Nevue and including his children on vocals, the track taps into the artist’s desire to take his music to the world, bridging out from the land of labels and delivering music that pulses with a passion and a soul.
“I want to make a big impact in the music world with my music, in terms of creating true songs with heart and feeling in them and new and experimental or at least top of the line sounds. I want my music to be played everywhere…I want to cross musical genre borders by collaborating with artists and producers from different genres. I want to touch the broad masses of people, but not by making soulless and simple music just to become rich and famous for a short while but for making quality and everlasting music both in EDM specifically as well as across borders.”
And at this point in his career, Bo Johnson is poised to do just that. Combining his difficult life experiences and his ability to persevere alongside his talent as an artist and a producer, the artist aims to deliver emotion each and every time, always remembering that “What we do in life, echoes in eternity.”
Bo Johnson invites you to come along and join the fight as he, much like a musical gladiator, leads listeners on a journey to places new, exciting, and unknown.
