Blue Nation is a 3-piece band from Birmingham, euphonic riff-based rock to create a sound that doesn’t fit neatly into a genre and is all the more memorable for it. Their songs are delivered by three accomplished musicians, fronted with stunning vocals. All backed up with impressive gig experience, stage presence and great songs.
Neil is main vocal and guitarist. He has enigmatic stage presence with vocals to match! Neil specialises in the truth when it comes to song writing. With love, life, hurt and sorrow it’s all wound up and created in Blue Nations songs. During a festival sound check “Big Mick” sound engineer for Metallica said, “where did that skinny kid (Neil) get that great voice from?” We still don’t know and neither does he…
Influenced by Hendrix, The Who, Small Faces, Cream and more recently Rival Sons and Black Keys. Says the best gig he has been to is the Foo Fighters with Joan Jet at Maddison SQ Garden
Luke adds backing vocals and bass to the rhythm section, by adding his intricate yet extremely effective bass lines to the songs.
He started playing bass guitar from a very young age, so young the bass was actually bigger than he was. Developing his playing and bass techniques over the years by playing in various different bands, supporting many big names and paying close attention to the greats of the bass world, like Jack Bruce, Jon Entwhistle and John Paul Jones. This development has resulted in him getting an endorsement from Lakland Basses. Musical influences include Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd and Zappa. As an avid Classic Car, Scooter fan and afore puts it a Mod For Life, the description is complete.
Ben, our newest member, provides the percussion to complete the rhythm section. He says “Since before my conscious thought even began, I was addicted to rhythm. So, it is no surprise that when I first held a pair of sticks at the age of 9, I was hooked, I found my calling. In the years that have followed I have gained invaluable experience working with countless numbers of bands including Grunge and Rock Bands, both live and in the studio. This has helped me develop a hard-hitting musical style of drumming. My live gigs have taken me around Europe multiple times and taught me vital lessons in musicianship and professionalism” His influences: - The Pineapple Thief, Soundgarden, Led Zeppelin, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Switchfoot, Hans Zimmer, Green Day, Status Quo, The Roots & Quincy Jones
Their most prestigious performances have been on the Main Music Stage @ F1 British Grand Prix Silverstone, twice, and tours with Dirty Thrills, Steve Conte (NY Dolls), Skid Row, Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy), Von Hertzen Brothers, Virginmarys, Cats in Space, King King and Kris Barras. Main support to Toploader @ Rhuddfest and main stage slot @ Evoke Festival Brentwood. The quirkiest was The Tramlines Festival Sheffield, acoustic on a moving Tram.
They are equally happy doing stripped down acoustic or full-blown electric gigs
Review of Skid Row main support set
“ …. style akin to Free, Cream, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Really enjoyed the set from 3 clearly very gifted musicians that have a strong set of songs. A number of 70’s retro bands doing the rounds at the moment, but Blue Nation really stand out from the pack….”
