Blessed Love is a soundsystem (DJ crew) based in Berlin, Germany. They mainly focus on Caribbean music like Dancehall/Reggae, Soca, but also Hip Hop and Tropical sounds.
Having played in different continents of the world, Blessed Love sets a high value on booking popular artists to Germany. Thus Blessed Love was to be seen on stage with artists like Buju Banton, Busy Signal, Alborosie, Collie Buddz, Assassin, Tony Matterhorn, Everton Blender, Junior Kelly, Notch, Ward 21, and many more ..
For many artists Blessed Love also operates as a dubplate agent, collecting dub requests from soundsystems to serve the best deals possible. Blessed Love worked with nearly every artist in the scene and sets a high value on good quality.
Further, Blessed Love works closely with www.BUYREGGAE.com, a record shop and distribution, which distributes the latest vinyl records to all 4 corners of the world.
The lights are low, the room is packed. Thick, musty clouds of perspiration hang in the air above the dance floor as reggae beats wash over the crowd like midnight tide on a Caribbean beach. Bodies sway, waistlines whine and dreadlocks swing in time with the music, and it’s just another night spent in .. Berlin?
Geographically speaking, Berlin and Kingston might be about as far apart as you can get. But culturally, there’s something inexplicable that connects these two cultural capitals. “Reggae started blowing up all over Germany in the end of the 90s,” says Soulrebel aka Rouzbeh Resaei, a member of Blessed Love Soundsystem, one of the country’s pre-eminent reggae crews. “As for Blessed Love, we got our start back in ‘97.“ Since then, it’s been nothing but growth, both for Blessed Love and for reggae in Germany. ”We like to think we’re on the forefront of something unique, something that’s taking on more and more Blessed flavor every day”.
Hear Rouz and his crew spinning records and chanting on the mic and you’ll experience how they set the dancefloor on fire. Apart from a precise mixture of the latest tracks and all time classics, Blessed Love stands out by presenting a deep box of dubplate specials, and exclusive remixes. And having worked with reggae luminaries Mavado, Busy Signal and Buju Banton, as well as the likes of Alborosie, Bounty Killer and Sizzla, let it never be said that Blessed Love lacks a connection to its style’s Jamaican roots. “A few years ago I decided to spend some time on the island building connections and getting a real feel for the world that gave birth to the music. Really just changed my life. I came in as an aficionado, but by the time I left Jamaica, I understood what I cared about, and that was reggae. The great thing is, we all feel that way.”
Living in Germany, Blessed Love’s origins are yet to be found in the Middle East and different parts of Africa. And precisely for this reason they were attracted to the message of the music. “It’s rebel music, the mouthpiece of the unheard and underprivileged, and it’s fascinated me for a long time. It condemns racism and colonialism, which we all experienced. It’s entertaining, uncompromising, sometimes slack and silly, but also nice, liberating and uplifting.
Reggae simply covers all aspects of daily life. It’s people’s music.
To share their passion and make it accessible to the people of Germany Blessed Love Records was launched in 1998 as one of Europe’s first record shops for Caribbean music. “At first we imported records from Jamaica to cover our own needs. Later we launched the shop in Stuttgart.” After years of importing records straight from Jamaica, Blessed Love in 2004 founded Buyreggae (www.buyreggae.com). The online shop established itself by distributing exclusively productions of leading Jamaican labels.
Since the early days, Rouz and the rest of Blessed Love haven’t stopped partying, promoting, and pushing reggae. Expanding their reach beyond performance and the record business they launched a Dubplate Service (www.facebook.com/dubplates). “We arrange studio sessions with popular artists in Kingston, New York and Berlin. We offer our fellow DJs the opportunity to record dubplate specials for their Soundsystems. Up to now, we have recorded a wide range of artists, among them Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Sizzla and Dead Prez. We’re all about the community. That’s what the dubplate service is all about. We want to build connections to all corners of the globe. As Blessed Love we’ve performed all over Europe, in New York and even conducted a tour with jungle legend General Levy as far away as Brazil. Right now I’m planning a tour in India so I guess you can add that to the list too,” says Rouz.
So what’s next? “It’s been nothing but love since we got into the game. We’ll keep going to take Blessed Love to the next level. I’ve got to reach out and see who’s got an ear for our sound. So far, the response has been incredible. Reggae is international, so we keep spreading the love. Breaking down barriers and changing people’s minds is something we’re pretty used to.”
