Pasta music/ under/ digestive systems
Pasta music is music created from mathematical equations that describe the shape of the pasta.
A book came my way, half cookbook, half radical mathematical document, displaying about two hundred types of pasta, with clean Studio shots, and a computerized formal graph of every type- depth, width, height, and a two dimensional layout of the pasta’s form.
That graph set parameters under which these equations were written. These equations contain both sinus and cosines, which are the mathematical name for sine waves. A sine wave has a shape, as well as frequency.
I chose one of my favorite pasta shapes, the fuzilli (shaped like a curl).
I took the equations that describe it to a mathematician / musician / certified in computer science, claiming that one can turn these equations into sound, into melody.
The universe is based on numbers, as Pythagoras claimed, that’s the reason it is called “cosmos” (order). There’s an order underlying all visible, and that same order is a numeric order.
As the pitch depends on the length of the string playing it- so does the shape of the pasta can be a starting point for the existence of a sound, an invisible sound, blocked for the human ear.
The mathematician agreed with the statement that one can generate a frequency from these equations, and so he introduced me to the “Fourier transform”, transmuting using computer software equations into frequencies. In a professional terminology- a mapping between space-time and frequency space. These frequencies can also be sound waves.
In my mind I imagined a tune, strolling through the shape of the pasta, creating different chords and characters. But in fact, these equations describe the frequency’s trip on the external shape of the pasta, and therefore does not create a melody, but a certain sound, a vibration.
In my work “Pasta music / under / digestive systems”, I wanted to deal with the digestive system from a different angle. Therefore I casted a hollow, feminine buttocks, that can be used as a sound box for the pasta sounds.
The buttocks appear in different configurations in the music world, since the shape of the guitar and the shape of the resonance tools generally resemble the shape of the feminine buttocks. Round. Sound can travel in it very well.
I took those frequencies we’ve made out of pasta equations, and brought them into the hands of a musician, a hip hop bit manufacturer . if I play the initial frequency generated from the transformation, it would be a characterless white noise. I decided to chop and stretch that same frequency so it will become a slow, Low, tuneless black bit, just a rhythm that speaks with the same internal rate everyone feels while dancing.
What will happen when the pasta frequencies will be played in the resonance of an ass?
Another level of digestion, digestion without digestion. Taboo-free sound of the digestive system. The pasta talking with the buttocks. Digestive systems change.
