Dj / Producer
Mexico / USA
CEO / Owner @ Material Disco Records
Filizola began his musical journey at the young age of 10. Taking his first steps as a DJ circa ‘90-92, a young Filizola reinvested every earning on more and more music. By 1993, he began to learn to play musical instruments, mainly guitar and drums, forming his band Rustter around 1998.
At the turn of the century, Filizola became familiar with the new, emerging digital interfaces and began to merge his sound. In 2005 he went continue his studies in Boston where he learned the language of blues and jazz, something that became a solid base to his productions and live sets. His Lado Ub project soon followed, culminating in the release of the ‘Más Allá’ LP.
Now back in his native Mexico City since 2012, Filizola has been solely committed to electronic music for a decade, taking advantage of new technologies and starting a new facet as a DJ, closing a cycle that had begun 20 years ago.
Filizola's style has been described by himself as a fusion of electronic music with rock, jazz, and blues, setting a sound of his own, far from conformism and imitation. Gustavo Cerati, the legendary singer of Soda Stereo, has undoubtedly been one of the musicians that have contributed most to his inspiration, due in large part to the experimentation that the Argentinean rocker showcased throughout his career. To seal his admiration for this artist, Filizola participated in a tribute at the Eva Perón Theater in Argentina, where they used his remixes as a soundtrack to the event.
Among the highlights of Filizola's career, one can find his remix of Duran Duran’s ‘Come Undone’, which was endorsed by the iconic British group on their social media, as well as performances with renowned artists, such as Purple Disco Machine, Sammy D, PillowTalk and a back-to-back set with Kolombo. All this hype has contributed to the fact that Filizola's name has been gaining recognition in the electronic scene, going on to publish his productions via labels such as Groovy Riddim, Piston Recordings, Prison Entertainment, NYLO Music, and Soviett among others.
More recently, his 'Feel Me All Night' EP, which features vocalist/songwriter Roberta Howett and came out on the prestigious NYLO Music remained on Beatport's Top 100 Nu Disco charts for over 7 months, reaching the 28th spot. His latest cut for Rh2’s 'Close’ was part of the ‘Get House 20’ compilation, consolidating him as one of the circuit's top producers and opening the door to new releases on the acclaimed Bunny Tiger Records. He recently has managed to be in the 6th and 8th position in the Beatport charts as well as top 20 in the traxsource charts.
In 2021 he created his own label, Material Disco, tailored to release indie dance and nu-disco sounds while featuring a variety of artists from around the globe. Filizola plans to continue exploring his wide variety of musical influences while producing and extending his shows around the world.
His songs have been supported by Kevin McKay (Glasgow Under Ground), Danny Tenaglia, Cevin Fisher, Sharam Jey did edited for him and most recently a Colab with Superlover. On the Mexican scene, he has shared the stage with NORTEC: BOSTICH + FUSSIBLE, Sussie 4, and Plastilina Mosh. He was also part of a concert in the CDMX arena with Fey (the so-called queen of electro-pop in Mexico) where he was in charge of the effects in the medley.
