Guitar Idea 03 by benreaves published on 2013/03/21 22:23:33 +0000 Came up with this last night. Can be played in standard/Eb standard but I had just the low E string tuned to Eb. It's kinda hardcore but not metal. I played this on my Ibanez RG321MH, using its stock bridge humbucker. That was running straight into the Normal Lead channel on my 1993 Peavey Classic 50, gain on 12/12. Recorded on my iPhone, so it's not spectacular recording going on, just a class A sounding amp. Preamp tubes (V1, V2, and V3) are JJ/Tesla ECC83Ss, the "gold pin" tubes, which JJ redesigned to "improve" the tube, and used gold plating on the connector pins. Power tubes are JJ/Tesla EL84s, a matched quad. Using the original Peavey Blue Marvels, the result is an incredibly smooth tone that I've come to love. Thick and incredibly intelligible, you can play any chord in the book with the gain maxed out and still hear every note. And that's running directly into the front end of the amp. Thoroughly impressed with JJ's work with these things. My only regret is that I use Guitar Rig, and I don't have I/O that can be reamped with no noise, nor can I run it easily in an FX loop configuration. More on that later if I can figure it out.
