For Ella On The Station Platform by Ben Osborn published on 2018-11-20T11:19:03Z For Ella On The Station Platform (about borders 1) Maria Askew and Ben Osborn format: .wav file, to be played on loop over speakers or headphones part of about borders - an ongoing collaboration between composer Ben Osborn (UK/US) and theatremaker Maria Askew (UK/Ecuador). Since Autumn 2018, Maria Askew and Ben Osborn have been creating collaborative works on the theme of borders. Taking inspiration from Mexican novelist Yuri Herrera and drawing on both political science and personal accounts, their work interrogates the mythology and aesthetic of the border as impermeable membrane or frontier, viewing it instead as a place of contact and contagion where plural identities and geographies chaotically merge and reform. For Ella On The Station Platform is a sound loop of field recordings gathered at transportation terminuses, where different languages merge with the sounds of transit. The sounds were processed through a range of analogue synthesisers, drawing out their innate rhythms, melodies and harmonies into moments of lush musicality.
