The project: Make music for Paige Dansinger’s Palmyra 3D/VR images, paying tribute to the late Bassel Khartabil.

This is an edited two-minute excerpt from a seven-minute improvised multitrack piece created for the project. All parts were recorded live on a Korg Volca FM, processed by Earthquaker Devices Avalanche Run (delay/reverb) and Old Blood Noise Endeavors DarkStar (orchstral/pitch shift reverb) pedals. A bit of Valhalla Room was added in places during editing.

I spent a little bit of time looking at the motion in Paige's images, and decided to try to give a nod to the light loops in her work. I came up with the higher arpeggiated line (that comes in midway through the piece), while watching her Tetrapylon image and trying to imitate the rhythm of the loop. From that starting point, I created the rest of the track.

Rest in peace Bassel Khartabil.
