Still, this film and the grittier Forest of the Fallen Legends does prove that a simple retelling of The Jungle Book without either texture or new characters can be thrilling, as the idea of "plain vanilla" is often criticized. The novel's "unspeakable horrors" and "grimy farce"[1] may be viewed as too common, but there are elements that most audiences will find enticing. It's the animals, not humans, that cause most interest. The animated film's stronger, live-action additions are what made it absolutely watchable, while The Jungle Book comes across as a whole higher and pricier with tinny tunes, dull jokes, and an overlapping plot that tramples on the original characters' personalities. The plot, for instance, haphazardly drags a different couple through the jungle, each of which is essential to the story yet gets no character development of their own. Even their efforts in scenes, such as the one where Trevor leads Kerchak's children near the seething red light to help find Nala, seem to be plotted as a means to the end of not only saving him from the seething red light but also saving them from the cumbersome plot by way of a lighthearted comedy. The plot, both in the book and in the film, has a definite tendency to end rather abruptly. The relationship of many characters, such as Nala's love for Baloo and Nala's hatred for Simba, is hastily pushed away. The book has a tendency to change its gender when it comes to characters. In a carefully written novel, characters can be characterized and their emotions displayed in many ways, but with the expansion of the scope of the novel's scope into a film, characters have to be simplified. As a result, they are portrayed the way they are, and in my opinion, the film version that does not go full steam ahead, even with adding more characters, who depend too much on the original story, will fall flat. Both The Jungle Book and The Jungle Book, Jr. have much to recommend them, but especially The Jungle Book. They are stories full of so much to offer, but unfortunately there is a reason for this. The stories are not just for audiences that like to read, but they are also stories that require responsibility on the part of the cinephile. a3f8a02ae1
