Following an avalanche of support for his debut release ‘Tell Me’ earlier this year, rising Scottish star Waterson returns with ‘Shelter EP’, a sublime collection of three brand new original tracks perfectly complimented with remixes from Ashley Beedle, Hannah Holland, Moodymanc and Krypotogram.
Released back in January this year with main mixes from chart-topping producer KDA, Waterson's 'Tell Me' found support from an array of A-listers, including Pete Tong, Annie Nightingale, The Magician, DJ S.K.T., Kenny Dope, Mark Knight, Blonde, Luke Solomon, Sister Bliss and A-Trak. Plays on Radio 1, Beats 1, Capital Xtra, 6 Music and Rinse soon followed, along with compilation inclusions from Toolroom, Future Disco, CR2 and Defected, marking it as one of the most impactful underground debuts of the year.
As the 'Tell Me' plot continues to unfold, Waterson is back with a follow-up EP entitled 'Shelter'. Written and performed by the artist, the new EP is produced by legendary UK house music innovator and Back To The World label boss, Ashley Beedle and mixed by Darren Morris (Massive Attack, Tim Goldsworthy, David Holmes).
‘Shelter’ makes a political plea for maintaining a sense of community whilst the world around us changes. The lyrics are a clarion call, reminding us that we are all part of a greater whole; joining in the fight against conservatism, looking out for those who still need help. It's a house track in the truest sense of the genre; calling clubbers to arms in the most soulful way, taking us back to dance music's radical roots, with a vocal style reminiscent of Robert Owens.
The rest of EP sees Waterson explore electronic art-disco in ‘Ego’ and sultry, longing house vibes on ‘Say My Name’. He inhabits each of the three songs with a search-and-destroy intensity, leaving no stone unturned, possessing a golden voice of extreme originality.
Waterson also played and programmed a lot of the music himself from his Glasgow bedroom before debunking to North Street Studio One in St Leonards Warrior Square, where the productions came alive under the tutelage of electronic music supremo, Ashley Beedle. Ashley’s long-term musical partner Darren Morris added his musicianship into the mix before engineering the whole project with his signature, seamless style.
In addition to these three strikingly unique originals, the EP boasts remixes of the title track courtesy of deep house guru Moodymanc, East London techno bass queen Hannah Holland and top nu-house producer from Chicago, Kryptogram. All deliver their own arresting versions.
