Åyusp Sheffield 21st Century Steel City Kosmische Åyusp (pronounced "Oy-usp") are a Sheffield based electronic synth outfit, consisting of Graham McElearney (who has previously guested with Regal Worm, Amorphous Androgynous, In The Nursery and Reverend & The Makers) and Paul Jonathan Mills (formally a member of PsychoAcoustic SoundClash and The Weird & The Wonderful). The band was formed in 2016 out of a shared affection for German electronic music of the Seventies. Fusing those influences with an equal passion for ambient, classical, industrial, avant-garde and contemporary dance music, Åyusp have created their own unique sound. In addition to working on their debut album, eponymously titled "Åyusp" (self released in October 2019), they have also been performing "audio archaeology" along the way, recreating an excerpt from Tangerine Dream's 1975 York Minster gig (which up to now has only existed in low quality bootleg form). This piece was unveiled on BBC Radio 6 Music on "Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone" in the Summer of 2019 and was met with an amazing response, gaining attention from around the world. Åyusp are currently recording new material for an e.p. and are also working on a soundtrack for this year's Festival of the Mind. Follow Åyusp on Facebook for details of upcoming gigs and releases.
