ATAXIA / Detroit
Play It Say It, Leftroom, Nervous Records, Connaisseur, Culprit LA
Early 2017 has Ataxia’s focus on “The Rickaverse”, their new EP on the UK based Leftroom Records. The EP includes a scorching remix from label boss Matt Tolfrey, and the release is hitting it on the charts with DJ support coming from some of the world’s tastemakers, Jamie Jones, Joris Voorn, Richie Hawtin & Terry Francis as examples. Up next from the duo is the “Acid Overlook" EP, coming out on one of dance music’s most influential labels, NYC’s Nervous Records. The release features a collaboration and additional remix from two of Detroit’s most musically prolific global exports, Terrence Parker & Merachka. This EP package will see worldwide release in January!
Last year Seth Troxler signed Ataxia to his Play It Say It label, with an appearance on “The Acid EP”. Their “Afternoon Acid” contribution received high marks and plays from DJs like Michael Mayer, Ame, Doc Martin, DJ Tennis, Ewan Pearson, Danny Howells and Ben Pearce to name a handful. The late night anthem had it’s worldwide radio debut courtesy of Anja Schneider on her long standing “Dance Under the Blue Moon” show.
As active on the gig tip as they are in the studio, Ataxia perform at some of North America’s best clubs. In addition to a long standing residency at Detroit’s world famous TV Bar, they make regular appearances at NYC’s Output, and have torn holes in the dancefloor at the Standard Rooftop LA, Audio in San Francisco, Washington DC’s Flash & U Street Music Hall, Electric Pickle and Treehouse in Miami, Smart Bar in Chicago and La Santanera in Playa Del Carmen. Equally sought out on the festival circuit, their résumé includes multiple appearances at Movement, Moogfest, BPM, Burning Man, WMC, SXSW and Mutek.
Regardless of where these time-traveling party starters may reside, they embody and embrace the true essence of Detroit, from its rich music culture and community, to the deep voids of its decay. Turn on and tune in to their sound to see why URB Magazine described them as “leading yet another generation of electronic music innovators to come out of the Motor City.”
