Ataxia
Detroit
ATAXIA: The tooth in your jewelry box.
Known for their oddball, reliable rave jams, Detroit based Ataxia is dropping their debut full-length album “Out of Step” in 2022 on acclaimed indie label Life and Death. The album is an homage to their punk roots, with 12 tape saturated dance tracks featuring guest appearances by a handful of Detroit’s most respected house music producers. In addition, the group will be releasing new records on 20/20 Vision and Cynosure, as well as a follow up EP on Life and Death later in the year.
Ataxia has releases on imprints including Planet E, !K7, KMS, Visionquest, Nervous & Leftroom, and their music appeared on recent albums by Carl Craig & Stacey Pullen.
The pair behind the name, Ataxia’s Rickers & Ted Krisko are in constant collaboration with Mister Joshooa, with whom the band founded a vinyl-only record label, My Baby Recordings. Elusive but mighty, the output of the label has made it into the bags of some of our planet’s finest wax proliferators, and has music in their catalog from a strong crew of serious heads.
Their discography features collaborative work alongside fellow Detroiters DJ Minx, Andrés, Norm Talley, Terrence Parker & Merachka, and E Spleece. Remix and edit work of their cuts coming from Delano Smith, Luke Hess, Ryan Crosson & Shaun Reeves, Matt Tolfrey, Ralph Lawson, SIS & Jamie Jones.
Tracks by the duo have been aired on BBC Radio 1, Ministry of Sound, Circoloco Radio, Ultra Resistance, Defected, and a slew of terrestrial stations across the globe.
On the DJ front, Ataxia are hosts of a forthcoming music series on Ibiza based OpenLab FM, hold court as curators on the UK’s Threads Radio, recently recorded a mix of all originals for fabric in London, as well as sets for WWFM, Deep House Amsterdam and Proton Radio. They are 13-year residents at the world-famous TV Lounge and host their regular “Friday Night Machines” party at Detroit’s Marble Bar institution, where Krisko has long resided as music director and booker.
As for their traveling roadshow, Ataxia is part of the Armigé Agency. The group’s standout sets at major festivals and clubs have earned them their reputation as crackshot party starters.
The gig rap sheet includes Movement Detroit, The BPM Festival, MMW / WMC, SXSW, Moogfest, Electric Forest & Burning Man, plus inclusion at carefully curated locales like Pike’s Ibiza, Berlin’s Sisyphos, Smartbar in Chicago, Output NYC, Electric Pickle in Miami, Audio SF & LA’s Standard Rooftop.
In your ear or in your face, despite the strong resume, they let the music do the talking. There’s the information...that’s the post.
