New music sensation Askala Selassie is taking the reggae industry by storm, with her outstanding pure vocals, heartfelt songwriting ability and captivating smile; she has engaged with and wowed every audience which has come in contact with her music
Askala Selassie whose name means The Fruit of the Holy Trinity was born in London England in 1984, and was raised to the beat of the Caribbean. Music is deeply rooted in her veins, but she especially love the heart beat music; Reggae music.
Her debut 7 track EP Put JAH First was released on 24 July 2011, produced by Italian independent record label Bizzarri records. Her EP and video launch was an great success, Maxi Priest, Savana and Lion D were amongst those who attended. This EP has captivated the hearts of many, and clearly demonstrates her GOD given musical talent. The aim of the Put JAH first EP, and Askala Selassie career, is to bring people closer to JAH. To put JAH first is what we should all endeavour to do in our daily lives, all the songs on the EP ‘ Put JAH first, were inspired by JAH and written by Askala Selassie. The Put JAH First official video was recorded in Italy by Pierpaolo Ingrassia of Clip cut media, one of Italy's leading music video directors. She also recorded a video for love you always with clip cut media 2012.
Helping to keep Bob Marley’s spirit alive, Askala Selassie was recruited after a live show to tour with the original Wailers band in 2005. She had the honour of touring Europe with the original Wailers Band in countries such as Italy, Spain, Austria Hungry, Switzerland, and Sardinia. During this tour she gained experience 2nd to none, which was a back bone and a great starting point for her career. Askala Selassie was and is the youngest ever Wailing sister.
With music forever running through her veins, she writes and performs her own music which combines traditional with non traditional. Askala Selassie has recorded, performed and shared the stage with some of Reggaes finest such as, Sugar Minott, Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrica, Etana, Andrew Tosh, Beres Hammond, Rita Marley, C-Sharp, Frankie Paul, Warrior King, Tony Rebel and Luciano to name but a few.
Askala Selassie also worked very closely with Karl Toppin one of the tour engineers for the Wailers, also known as K Big neck from; Big neck productions. They worked on her first single ‘Faith’ which is one of the tracks on the Put JAH first EP. Askala Selassie recorded ‘Faith in Jamaica’ with Dwight Pinkney (from the Root Radix), and went on to record the music video for Faith also in Jamaica. The video was recorded and directed by Asha -Sling Shot Productions and One Locz Ras - Shac works who are still Jamaica's top directors.. At this time she also had a promotional campaign, where she won the best newcomer award on Roots FM in Kingston, she had a television interview on CVM @ sunrise, and interviews with the Star newspaper, Irie FM and RJR.
Askala has also worked on a number compillation projects such Reggae girls which was driven by Italian Steve Giant of Rastasnob magazine. She also worked with Curtis Lynch of Necessary Mayhem on Proud to be RASta with Masicka and Blackout JA (Gorilla riddim), and with Metastone production of France. She is also working continuously with Italian producers Bizzarri records.
Askala Selssie had her first vinyl released in January 2013. She has been working closely with sound system giant King Shiloh sound from Holland. The 12" has done extremely well, selling out at every venue. The two songs Salute, and Faithful and true, are currently mashing up the dub scene and getting a lot of love.
In June 2013 Askala Selassie featured in a new video Inna me yard with Pierodread for his album....Askala Selassie is currently working on new music which will be out soon.
