Thob Sitti - Palestine - Performance Audio by British Council Arts published on 2017-08-25T13:41:13Z 'Thob Sitti' is one of the most popular children's songs in Palestine and was composed by renowned Palestinian musician Suhail Khoury. The lyrics are written by Khaled Jum'a, who has written a huge number of songs for children. The song is about a child singing to her grandmother, fascinated by her beautifully embroidered traditional dress. The dress is a symbol of the gradmother's roots as the lyrics tell us that she started the embroidery in her home city of Jaffa in historic Palestine before she had to take refuge in Gaza after the 1948 Nakba. The music uses the Arabic hijaz maqam scale and is recorded using traditional Arabic instruments. It is part of Khoury's third album for children entitled 'Bass Shwai,.
