Responding is philosopher Mohan Matthen. Michael Newall is the Director of Learning and Teaching for the School of Arts and Director of the MA program in Philosophy of Art and Aesthetics at the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK. His expertise spans art history and theory as well as the philosophy of art and aesthetics. Michael’s interest in contemporary and Australian art has developed in part from his earlier work as a critic and curator. Mohan Matthen is Professor and Senior Canada Research Chair in Philosophy of Perception at the University of Toronto, Canada. He specialises in multi-modal and active perception, the perceptual representation of space and aesthetic pleasure.
