Angela Blacklaw Angela Blacklaw London An English/German hybrid brought up in Scotland, Angela was taught to play violin by her dance orchestra leader grandfather. However, at 17 she accidentally chopped the top off her ring finger and couldn‘t hold down a string any more. She went into theatre instead where she also sang, then - choosing to connect with people in a different way - she developed a respected professional career in personal development. Inevitably she started performing again and since then took every opportunity to learn, studying with top vocal tutors Mike King (currently vocal coach on The Voice), Brigitte Beraha and Simone Niles, renowned jazz artist John Crawford and with established pop songwriters and producers such as Pete Cunnah and Paul Stanborough to become an accomplished multi-genre singer-songwriter-producer. Emerge Media Group has signed a number of her productions to be used in a range of international locations. Angela is also a live performer in premier vocal group The Mike King Collective, and has sung backing vocals for international artists such as Angelique Kidjo. She is lead singer in funk/soul collective Kaleidoscopic and for many years vocalist in the jazz/blues duo Silk Road. She has performed at the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Hippodrome, Luminaire, Regal Rooms and Bedford in Balham, and has sung in New York and Hungary. Her productions are reminiscent of Bjork, Portishead and Massive Attack, and the sensitivity in the haunting stories brings to mind Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks. She crafts her unique experimental sound with a chilled lounge vibe and floating vocals, undercut by effects that send shivers down your spine as do intriguing lyrics that reveal something darker. These songs are perfect for enhancing TV and film productions, having both a sense of drama and a laid back vibe which means that they enhance the on screen action rather than compete with it. Emerge Media Group have signed a number of Angela’s songs to be used in a range of international locations. Her debut album “The Scale of Love and Destruction” is available now for production music. She is currently working on her next album: an acoustic jazz collection. Angela is also using her skills in a bespoke songwriting business, creating unique songs to celebrate special occasions. She also conducts leading edge research into how Jung’s archetypes are manifested in contemporary songs.
