Cheltenham, Britain (UK)
Hey there, and welcome to my Soundcloud page. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and for hopefully listening to one of my mixes. All my uploads here are my own DJ mixes - ‘Progressive’, ‘Tech-House’, ‘Techno,’ ‘Deep House’, whatever you want to call it, these are house music mixes recorded at my home in Cheltenham. House music has been with me all my life, well at least since 1986 when it first hit the airwaves of mainstream UK radio. Upon hearing it as a 12 year old I was hooked. Growing up in rural Norfolk though was not exactly conducive to accessing underground house music, however, regular trips to stay with my dad just north of London allowed me the opportunity to listen to, and record, hours and hours of pirate radio, which was taped and brought back to Norfolk, much to the bewilderment of my friends and frustration of my family. I’d spend night after night poring over those tapes making lists of records to seek out in the independent record stores of Soho on my next London visit. One of the records that I first bought on such a trip was the album ‘House Hallucinates’, released in1987, which completely redefined what the very word ‘music’ meant to me. Acid House/Chicago House etc., that was, and still is, an epic album. In the late 80’s and early 90’s the three main inspirational DJ’s to me were Colin Dale, Colin Faver and Jeff Young. They inspired my musical choices, what music to buy and showed me there was a world of music beyond what was on TOTP and Radio Norfolk! After leaving school I got a dead-end job purely and simply to earn enough to buy some Technics and, once bought, I then started amassing large quantities of records, working all the overtime I could to buy vinyl. In 1992 I went to see Sasha at Lakota in Bristol who set a benchmark to me of ‘how to DJ’ - the construction of his set and flawless mixing that night was amazing. Sasha has remained a core influence ever since. The Sasha & Digweed ‘Renaissance Mix’ triple CD of 1994 remains to this day one of the finest examples of the art of DJ’ing you will hear and his set at the 2012 Global Gathering is as good a set I ever remember witnessing. Other major influences are James Zabiela, John Digweed, Yamil Colucci, Heidi, Joris Voorn, Carl Cox, Yousef and many more. I’m not a DJ and I haven’t played out since 1995. I sell wine and drinks for a living and I just play for fun in my flat, occasionally to the ears of my friends - basically I’m a ‘bedroom DJ’. What I do try to achieve in all my mixes is a sense of journey, a piece of work that warrants more than one listen, something that can be returned to months, or years, later. I love my music, am passionate about it, I spend weeks preparing these mixes and am teaching my two sons how to DJ. Maybe one of them will go on to make it? Enjoy the tunes. Everything is available as a free download, so please help yourselves. Please leave feedback, good or bad, it will be massively useful to hear your thoughts. Cheers!
