BIO
Andrea Parkins is a Berlin-based sound artist, composer, and electroacoustic instrumentalist engaging with interactive electronics as compositional/performative process. She is known for her pioneering approach on her electronically processed accordion, and investigation of embodiment and chance with her custom-designed software instruments.
Parkins' projects encompass sound and intermedia installations, electroacoustic compositions and performances, and scores for dance, film and intermedia performance. Her work has been presented at the Whitney Museum, The Kitchen, Experimental Intermedia, Kunsthalle Basel, NEXT Bratislava & many more. She records/performs as a solo artist and with artists such as Magda Mayas, Tony Buck, Ute Wassermann, Nels Cline, among others. Parkins' recordings have been published by Important Records, Confront Recordings, Atavistic, Infrequent Seams and Creative Sources. Her work has received support from American Composers Forum, NYSCA, French-American Cultural Exchange, Q-02, MAAF, Harvestworks. Hamburg Kulturbehoerde, the Norwegian Academy of Music/Norwegian Artistic Research Programm, and the Berlin Artistic Research Grant Programme. She has been an invited resident artist at Rauschenberg Residency in Captiva, Florida and EMS in Stockholm. She is a 2022-2023 fellow of the Berliner Förderprogramm Künstlerische Forschung / Berlin Artistic Research Grant Programme.
