Ana Pi is a choreographer, image artist, urban dances researcher, contemporary dancer and pedagogue graduated from the School of Dance of the Federal University of Bahia – Brazil. She studied dance and image at the Center Chorégraphique National de Montpellier – France, formation EX.E.R.CE, under Mathilde Monnier’s direction, in 2009/10. Her practice is situated among notions of transit, displacement, belonging, overlaping, memory, colors, and ordinary gestures. In 2017 she presents a new dance piece called NOIRBLUE, during Artdanthé Festival 2017, and regularly collaborates with others artists on projects with diverse natures and durations, whether in music, dance, visual arts or fashion.
She lectures and performs about urban dances, those interactive lectures have been performed in Brazil, in Europe and, more recently, in Africa. Inside this process, she also teaches dance workshops based on the practice she has been developing called “STEADY BODY; peripheral dances, sacred gestures.”, where the dances originated from the peripheries of big cities, also known as urban dances, are intimately related to sacred gestures alive in the Black Diaspora.
