Amrit Rao, a Singer, Songwriter and Composer, was raised in Coimbatore, India and lived there till the age of 18. He moved to Bangalore to pursue an engineering degree in Computer Science like every other teenager in early 2000 and was unable to focus on his music. Soon enough, he got sucked in to the corporate world and worked in different companies for a few years before he decided to take the plunge into music as a full time career. Although his training in carnatic music is very basic and minimal, his tunes and sound are influenced by it and he loves to experiment with western music styles and explore various genres like Rock, Blues, Alternative music, Progressive rock, electronica and underground music. Amrit writes and composes his own songs both in Tamizh and English, taking inspiration from social issues and the life around him. His songs are entertaining and also portray social relevance. Tamizh has had and still has a big impact on him which explains his decision to start working on a full-fledged Tamizh album ‘Nirangal’ three years ago and the first song was recorded back then. His debut album has received rave reviews across different demographics, cultures and walks of life. The multi-genre album featuring hit singles like ‘Sappa Matter Da’, ‘Manjal Veyyil’ and ‘Singaari’, marries Tamizh music with an international sound. He is currently working on a five-track EP with multiple producers and looking to take his project live across India. Amrit Rao is also known for his flamboyant and high energy live performances with his Bangalore based band called ‘Live Banned’ and performs across India with them.
