November Man by Allysen Callery

I was driving home last November from a large folk convention, feeling very alone . I had left early, I am not great in crowds , and I didn't feel that sense of community or kinship that everyone else seemed to be reveling in.
I got into my car, & turned on Nick Drake's Family Tree .This was a new recording to me, and I immediately felt that musical kinship, so elusive for me in daily life.
Even while driving I dictated these words into my phone, and last Summer wrote the music.
I didn't grow up listening to Nick Drake, the way I had with Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span & Incredible String Band, but his music speaks to my soul , & I wish we could've met.

grey sky

naked trees, & the promise of ice
overnight

meet me there , grey as a ghost
