TorQ Machine (for percussion quartet and electronic tape by Alice Ping Yee Ho) by alicehopingyee published on 2015-05-06T23:04:49Z Torque Machine is symbolic of the design of “torque”: a rotating force that revolves around an axis or fulcrum. The theme of this work takes on the double meaning of an urge (moment of force) to showcase extraordinary ability in overcoming resistance or to turn things around. Inspired by the dynamic energy and daring attitude of the Toronto percussion quartet TorQ, this new work is designed to showcase the talents and specialty of the group. Each player has his own percussion setting: pitched mallet, drum set, power drum, hand held percussion that represents an imaginary device or “engine” equivalent to "torque". This work also “fuses” virtuosic percussion playing with electronics, beat boxing, hip hop or rock elements. Alice Ping Yee Ho (composer's note) Genre percussion
