Cradle by Alexis Bacon published on 2014-11-04T21:25:03Z This is a work to be played live by an alto saxophone player with prerecorded stereo playback. Dan Puccio performs on Alto Saxophone. The impetus behind “Cradle” was to explore the inherent musicality of baby talk. In working with recordings of my infant niece, I came to the realization that many vocalizations made by children have a simultaneously primal and anxious quality, which I augmented with similar screams, growls, and laughter from the alto sax. This high-energy sound is centered and balanced through recordings of a tabla. “Cradle” was the first place winner of the ASCAP/SEAMUS 2007 Student Composition Commission. “Cradle” was also a finalist in the 2010 Random Access Music Call for Scores.
