Alessandro Baris is an Italian-American multi-instrumentalist based in Bologna, Italy. He is also an established producer of electronic music and a seasoned composer.
Raised in the country side town of Esperia, Alessandro’s childhood was immensely influenced by its surrounding natural environment.
This connection deeply touched his soul - impacting his approach to music and his love for experimentation across a variety of genres.
Intimate and intense, detailed and evocative, his musical language is somehow influenced by the endless life-cycle.
In his early teens, Alessandro was introduced to music when he took to learning the drums; then later, the guitar. He also studied Electronic Music Production and Sound Processing at the Conservatory of Music, Tempo Reale and Rai in Florence.
Between 2004 and 2020, Alessandro dedicated his work to the bands Collisions, Comfort, Young Boy and Gold Mass. During these years, his versatility and commitment to music and sound garnered him attention from his peers across Europe and the United States - leading to collaborations with renowned artists Lee Ranaldo, L’Altra, Lisa Papineau, Egle Sommacal, Pulseprogramming, C’mon Tigre, Bad Sector, and Paul Savage.
Alessandro’s musical aptitude and interest for other arts have led him to work as a composer and performer on soundtracks for silent films (2007 - Present), with performances primarily being held at cinema festivals and venues throughout Italy and France.
His soundtrack renditions of Un Chien Andaloù has been awarded by the Moviemento Festival in Naples, and Berlin die sinfonie der großstadt at Rimusicazioni Festival in Bolzano with Berlin’s music collective The Somnambulist. Alessandro also collaborates with saxophonist Beppe Scardino and double-bassist Gabriele Evangelista for the soundtrack of Das cabinet des Dr. Caligari. In 2020 he performed solo for his new soundtrack rendition for the film La Jetèe by Chris Marker.
Alessandro has toured in the United States, Europe and China, with notable performances and festival appearances that include: CMJ (New York), Proximos (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), Eurosonic (Groningen), Tanned Tin (Valencia), Robot (Bologna), Centre des Arts (Paris), Kento’s (Shanghai), Club101 (Beijing), Sala Nasti (Madrid), Schubas (Chicago), Monk (Roma), Ancienne Belgique (Brussels), Tedx (Luxembourg), Petit Formant (Barcelona), Cameo Gallery (Brooklyn) amongst others.
As an established drummer special support to Alessandro’s work and sound comes from his endorsement with UFIP cymbals.
Alessandro has just finished working on his first solo EP Sintesi.
