Gees @ Afternoon / Laiki Geitonia / Terrace Project by afternoon / project published on 2021-08-04T12:05:44Z Laiki Geitonia (Λαϊκή Γειτονιά),( Nicosia, Cyprus) was inaugurated in 1983 and is located on Aristokyprou and Praxandrou Streets, extending to the surrounding areas within the city walls. The aim of Laiki Geitonia is to preserve the traditional character of Old Nicosia (Period 1850-1900) and become the center for promoting Arts and Culture including local products. Laiki Geitonia is a pedestrian zone and the architecture and infrastructure of Laiki Geitonia shapes a suitable environment for exhibiting products. The streets were built in a circular design and are connected with the shops/galleries creating unique outdoor spaces. The traditional buildings of the area are a unique characteristic of the architectural heritage. At the square of Laiki Geitonia cafes, restaurants and taverns offer a place to rest while the shops and workshops are located around the square and the surrounding streets. Afternoon Project Nicosia took the opportunity to explore Laiki Geitonia and created a rooftop gathering next to the square in order to promote the surrounding areas. We believe that supporting Laiki Geitonia and its artists/exhibitionists will create a prospectus area for both locals and tourists while preserving the traditional character of Old Nicosia.
