"The Aftermath" is an Ingush musical duo formed in 2004 by sisters Fatima Matieva and Taita Matieva. The girls were born and grew up in Grozny city (The Chechen Republic) and left their native place because of the war in 1994-1999. The event influenced on them so they started to write and perform their own songs without having any musical education.
In 2006 the duo released their first album "I Follow Song" which consists of 14 songs written and composed by Fatima and Taita. An interesting fact: sisters did never have any public performances at the time when the album had been recorded.
In 2012 the second album "Charming October" came out in a popular Russian magazine “Stereo&Video” http://www.stereo.ru/sv_onedisk.php?disk_id=158 And again all 12 songs of the album are written and composed by the sisters.
For the deep lyrics and melody, combination of naturalness and refinement and charisma the duo’s creation is highly acclaimed by the authoritative experts. Here are some quotes from the reviews:
"Fatima and Taita also known as "The Aftermath" write beautiful songs in English and perform them impeccably. It is very fresh and very live music which is absolutely not typical for our Russian scene."(c) music critic Artemy Troitsky
"Charming October" is the second album of "The Aftermath", which contains 12 flawlessly hit songs. The sources of inspiration for the sisters are their music collection: The Beatles, The Animals, classic of rhythm and blues and singers / songwriters. At the same time their music is absolutely theirs not giving even a drop of sense that "I’ve already heard it somewhere" – Matievs sisters don’t copy structures from folk-rock and acoustic blues, they just have a good perception of this music language and express their own thoughts on it. Sometimes it seems that these things are ready hits, they need just more guitar and rhythmic rigidity. Then you realize that the beauty of the Aftermath is stinginess, pithiness, sense of understatement. "(c) editor-in-chief of In-Rock magazine Vladimir Impaler
"There is sincerity and immediacy, and an indescribable feeling of life and authenticity of what is happening. However, the most interesting thing in the Aftermath is the unique melody of their songs. I remember a familiar professional musician noticed that they create as amateurs - not observing the laws of composition. It would be great if "serious" musicians do not observe these laws as the sisters do. Maybe in this case music in our country would be much more interesting. "(c) editor-in-chief of Stereo & Video Magazine Michael Borzenkov
"Compositions of "The Aftermath" bring together a common style that I will never mix up with anything else. This style is like wine aged on a secret recipe, absorbed solar heat of the southern blood, cool evenings and moonlight over the mountains of the Northern Caucasus, peace and tenderness of girls' hearts and perseverance in the search for answers, which would be envied by severe sailors from the windy foggy Albion. "(c) cinema expert Sergey Dzhumayev
"Autumn in blues tones i.e. «Charming October» The album was named after one of the twelve songs - «Charming October». The other eleven are related... no, not to the remaining months, rather - to different tones of autumn moods, moods of sisters Fatima and Taita. Herewith the warm sound of "live" instruments (guitar, piano, bass , cello , viola, vibraphone, dakhchan-pandar) turns out close to the blues, then the jazz, then the musical aesthetics, then a classical chamber ensemble; and all the stylistic allusions are united by the vocal intonation winning with its sincerity."
