Soulful with an edge, this is how we describe the musical talents of Adam Thayer. He began his journey over nine years ago when he first picked up guitar from his brother-in-law. From there Adam was involved in all different styles of music throughout the coming years. Primarily pursuing the rock scene he began performing with two friends under the stage name Sixth Wing Down, soon be replaced by a more permanent Everything Captive. Slowly he began incorporating more and more electronic sounds into his repertoire, adding them to the rock feel he knew and loved so well.
In 2009 he started DJing by himself for parties and school dances. This would later become one of largest mobile DJ services in the Lima, OH area, Rhythm of Life DJ Services. As he grew into DJing he realized that simply playing other musicians songs wasn't enough anymore: It was time to set out and diversify himself into something new musically.
Beginning in 2012 Adam started a new project with two of his roommates known as Dance Mob Therapy. This performance group held two successful shows and several parties at which they also performed as entertainment that year. This group has since turned into the EstrangeD live DJ trio whom Adam often brings to play live shows.
EstrangeD Music came about through careful introspection by Adam. He realized that much of the music he'd played all his life was now a crutch he needed to step out from behind to really become the artist he knew he could be. With this in mind, his goal was to set apart himself from both what he once was as a musician and also to set himself apart from those inside this new genre where he now spends most of his time. DJ EstrangeD is just that, estranged from the music of his past and always trying to be new and inventive in his future endeavors. He strives to combine EDM with other different genres to gain a sound that is unique in and of itself.
Why EDM? "Electronic Dance Music is like a catch all for musicians, you can be as creative as you want with no real confines on how your sound should come out." (Adam) With all the different styles of music he's played over the years (rock, blues, folk, worship, alternative, etc.) Adam decided the best approach was in trying to bridge the gap between what he could and couldn't already do live. In this genre his mission is to take the approach of combining genres and styles of playing into something new and electronic based. He once said, "It's the atmosphere that I like. With EDM the crowds are the best I've ever seen, most polite, but also want to have the most fun. I do this to help bring out those emotions in people: happiness, joy, fulfillment. I want everyone who walks through that door to enjoy themselves just as much as I do when I'm up there performing, or else it isn't worth it. I want every single person in the crowd to be able to lose themselves in the music, in the sound, and not care one bit about it. I'm here to change people, to give them what they need. That's what I really want to do."
