Abe Speller New Jersey Born in Ossining New York, Abe has been playing drums since the age of 12, performing his first professional gigs at age 18 recording and touring with guitarist Sonny Sharrock and Organist Charles "The Mighty Burner" Earland and keyboardist Lonnie Liston Smith. He then broke into the New York studio scene where he met Danish singer Kim Larsen, while living in Copenhagen we spent time touring Europe and writing music for two records on CBS Records and opening for the Rolling Stones on the Steel Wheels tour. Pat Benetar, Phoebe Snow, Steve Forbert among others. Back in New York it was the Downtown scene that was taking music in a new direction. It was then I collaborated with Emmett Chapman the inventor of the Chapman Stick performing at Two Saints and the Knitting Factory. With my experience playing New York society gigs and learning the songs from the Great American Songbook it was in the tradition of the classic jazz trio setting that interested me. Ahmad Jamal, Bill Evans and Kieth Jarrett was the sound I wanted to hear. Currently leading his own band the Abe Speller Jazz Trio.
